About JUSTICE Ministration

What is JUSTICE Ministration?

J.U.S.T.I.C.E. is the acronym for “Jesus Uniting Souls To Increase Community Engagement.”

“Ministration” is defined as “The services of a minister of religion or of a religious institution.”

JUSTICE Ministration’s Aims & Objectives

1. To use courage, love,  and perseverance established through faith, the examples of Jesus, the prophets, religious text, spiritual empowerment, and other moral principles to bring a level of insurmountable “….Community Engagement” to ensure justice and protections for the commonly violated, the mistreated, the poor, the oppressed, and others who are most vulnerable.

2.  To build coalitions and collaborate efforts with local neighborhoods, church partners and other bodies of faith, ministries and missions, civil/human rights organizations, and social justice movements to assist in empowering those scripturally described as “the least of these;”  “deliver” those scripturally described as “captives;” bring enlightening truth, empowering information, wisdom, or “sight”  to those “blind” by misinformation, miseducation, media bias, manipulative messaging in music, and dehumanizing and violently deceptive “entertainment;” and to assist in providing “liberty” and freedom to those scripturally described as the “bruised” or the “oppressed.”3.  To assist in establishing economic independence and economic justice where African American communities have been sinfully torn and deprived through an oppressive history of brutal slavery, Jim Crow, racial terrorism, land-takings, “urban removal,” race-induced poverty, and further exacerbated by today’s ongoing political transfer of jobs and resources out of African American communities as Black-owned businesses and meaningful jobs are replaced by deadend slave wages, deadly guns, drugs, liquor stores, gang affiliation, gentrification, and the new slavery of mass incarceration.  Jesus’ message and work “came to set at liberty those who are oppressed.”

Therefore the basic purpose for JUSTICE Ministration is to work in coordination with other great people of faith, “good shepherds,” activists, neighborhood ambassadors, and others called to do justice to ensure resources, hope, information, legislation, laws, and religion are used to benefit the disadvantaged children, the most needy, the fatherless, the captives, downtrodden, and to “set at liberty those who are oppressed.”

Commingling “Christianity” and “white supremacy” has been one of our nation’s larger sins. Using religion to enforce oppressive and degrading traditions has deep roots which cannot be underestimated. This gives JUSTICE Ministration and Jesus’ words – “Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free” new meaning.

JUSTICE Ministration’s active ministry will use Jesus’ powerful Luke 4:18 sermon as our guiding principles and categorized outline for community action and community engagement.

For example, on August 28, 2017, as part of the commemorative 1963 March on Washington, JUSTICE Ministration went to Washington, D.C. and kicked of its “Stop Killing Us (SKU) Solutions Campaign” at the steps of the U.S. Department of Justice.

Rev. Curtis E. Gatewood of the Stop Killing Us (SKU) Solutions Campaign stands in support of the weeping mother of Akiel Dennings who was shot and  killed by police in Raleigh, NC.
Community mourns in Durham, NC after a slained 7 year-old is caught into the crossfire of street violence.

Luke 4:18, below, are Jesus’ words which will be used as JUSTICE Ministration’s guiding principles toward “…Uniting Souls” and are outlined below:

Founder, Rev. Curtis E. Gatewood gives presentation during JUSTICE Ministration Faith & Unity Service in the HOLLA! Center in Morven, NC.
  • “The spirit of the Lord is upon me;
  • He Has anointed me to preach the good news to the poor;
  • He Has sent me to heal to broken hearted;
  • Preach deliverance to the captives;
  • Recovering of sight to the misinformed;
  • To set at liberty those who are oppressed.”

Not only will the movement continue growing with its exciting monthly JUSTICE Faith & Unity Services the 3rd Sunday at 3 p.m. at the HOLLA! Center in Morven (near the Charlotte area), NC, we will be adding a service on the 2nd Sunday of each month at 3 p.m. at the Gateway Center in Henderson (near the Durham area) NC beginning in February (2/11/18).

JUSTICE Ministration was born in the HOLLA! Center on July 13, 2017, 101 years following the birth of the late Rev. Dr. Wade Hampton Gatewood, the father of JUSTICE founder Curtis, and HOLLA! founder Leon Gatewood.

Curtis standing behind his father Rev. Wade H. Gatewood at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Hamlet, NC. Curtis was born during the 51 years Dr. Wade Gatewood pastored there. As a child, during a county-wide vacation bible school written assignment, the class was asked “What would you like to be when you grow up?” 9 year-old Curtis was asked to read his response to the full congregation because he wrote – “I would like to be a great preacher about like my dad.”
